HOW IT ALL STARTED

Hungarian Antique Pine was founded by owner Joseph Szatmári in 1995. Joseph started out his young adult-life as an upholster in Felsőtárkány, a small rural village in North-Eastern Hungary, minutes away from the historic town of Eger. It was not long until Joseph relized that being an upholster in his small village won't satifsy him. He decided that he will try his luck working abroad, first in Germany, then after a few years he ended up in Toronto, Canada. That's where he got introduced to the world of antiques, as he got a job in an antique furniture store. He quickly made a liking for the antique business and got promoted to buying up antique furniture in Europe for the store. After he got his new position, it was just a matter of time for Joseph to leave the antique store as an employee and open up his own furniture repair shop in Mississauga, right beside Toronto. After a couple years he realised he wanted to bring his operations back to Hungary to minimize production cost and still sell overseas. In 1999, he finally made the move and brought his operations back to his home village, and the rest is history. Today, Joseph is running the company together with his son Dan, who had decided to join the family company after college.
